How to See Wildlife in Yala
1. Go on a Guided Jeep Safari

Wildlife viewing in Yala is done exclusively through 4×4 jeep safaris. These safaris are led by experienced local guides who know the park’s zones, animal behavior, and the best routes to take.

  • Early Morning Safaris (5:30 AM – 9:00 AM): Animals are most active during the cooler hours, especially predators like leopards.

  • Afternoon Safaris (2:30 PM – 6:00 PM): Ideal for elephant sightings and birdwatching as they come out to waterholes.

  • Zone 1: Most popular and has the highest chances of spotting leopards and elephants.

  • Zone 5: Less crowded, better for birdwatching and peaceful experiences.

  • Booking in advance is recommended, especially for Zone 1.

  • Bring binoculars and a camera with a zoom lens
